What is Defensive Pistol Shooting?   Defensive pistol shooting as a sport is quite simply the use of practical equipment including full charge service ammunition to solve simulated "real world" self-defense scenarios. Shooters competing in Defensive Pistol events are required to use practical handguns and holsters that are truly suitable for self-defense use. No "competition only" equipment is permitted in Defensive Pistol matches since the main goal is to test the skill and ability of an individual, not his or her equipment or gamesmanship.
 
What equipment do need in order to compete in IDPA matches? To shoot IDPA matches with us you will need to have a suitable, holstered gun (9mm or larger), dual mag pouch, three loaded mags and a concealment garment. In addition, a small shooting bag with more ammo, additional loaded mags if you have them and of course eye and ear protection. You should be able to get by with 100 rounds of ammo per match.

When are matches held?   Pickaway Count Sportsman's Range will host IDPA matches every 2nd Saturday (see exact dates and exceptions in the list below) of each month starting May 14th. Shooter registration is 9a-10a with the match starting at 10a.The matches are open to shooters of all different skill levels. Shooters who have never participated in a match that requires drawing from concealment and shooting on on the move must attend a new to IDPA shooters briefing that includes a safety & equipment check, so get there at 9a for registration.

Where are the matches held?   Our range is located at 8100 US 22, East Circleville. The matches will be held on four of the pistol ranges. There will be a minimum of four stages per match. The cost for these matches is $15 for the first run and $7.50 for reshoots.
